After meeting in a middle-school typing class, the two began playing music and immediately chose the name Ween as well as their\u00a0<a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Ramones\">Ramones<\/a>-inspired pseudonyms.<sup><a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ween#cite_note-4\">[<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Ween performed as a duo backed by a\u00a0<a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Digital_Audio_Tape\">Digital Audio Tape<\/a>\u00a0for the band&#8217;s first ten years of existence before expanding to a four- (and later five-) piece act. The band&#8217;s highest charting single is &#8220;<a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Push_th%27_Little_Daisies\">Push th&#8217; Little Daisies<\/a>&#8220;, which was a hit in the\u00a0<a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States\">United States<\/a>,\u00a0<a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Zealand\">New Zealand<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Australia\">Australia<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Ween is generally categorized as an alternative rock band, they are known for their highly eclectic catalog of songs inspired by <a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Funk\">funk<\/a>,\u00a0<a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Soul_music\">soul<\/a>,\u00a0<a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Country_music\">country<\/a>,\u00a0<a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gospel\">gospel<\/a>,\u00a0<a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Progressive_rock\">prog<\/a>,\u00a0<a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/R%26B\">R&amp;B<\/a>,\u00a0<a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heavy_metal_music\">heavy metal<\/a>,\u00a0<a data-external=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Punk_rock\">punk rock<\/a>, and more.
